Anna Pappas wears many outfits. Figuratively and literally of course.

I recently had the pleasure of catching up with her for a chat. She is a beam of sunshine, oozing enthusiasm, positive energy and a lot of heart. I  discussed with Anna Pappas – the Celebrity Stylist- as an established businesswoman. I wanted to know how she paved her own way, for my advice and our readers  advice should you be itching to pursue your own venture.

Anna has been in the industry for twenty years. She had always had a knack for styling and was always told by friends she should pursue this. In the beginning she put her foot in many doors pursuing any opportunities that arose. These included modelling, promotional work; she owned a hair styling make up business and worked as a business development manager for a skin care company.

Personal styling had crossed Anna’s mind but she needed to go on a bit of Anna on vacationsoul search and went traveling for while where she found her calling. She was bouncing to the beat of the Mykonos drum. Due to the different ethnic blends on the island, it was a hub of fashion inspiration for Anna. She was blown away by the plethora of fashion diversity. Not to mention the history of designers like Jackie Onassis and Valentino congregating to Mykonos. It was here that the light bulb switched on and she decided she was going to come home and pursue her dreams. It wasn’t going to be easy.

Through an online casting she applied for a show called Miss World Fashionista. After a four-month selection process Anna was chosen to represent Australia.

The show was cancelled before production took place. This was a huge setback for Anna but she wasn’t about to let this hurdle get in her way. Anna began studying as a personal stylist and opportunities began presenting themselves. She competed against various stylists around the world, in a style TV Show ‘Style War’ for Fashion-1TV in the Philippines. The rest is history. Now she has high profile clientele including at the recent Logies.

I asked Anna for a quick look at poor old me and admitted I am inept when it comes to style. I asked for some quick style hacks:

  • Anna believes everything comes from the inside out. So you have to feel comfortable in your skin
  • Exercising your style muscle (look for different looks, try different combinations on)
  • Establish your own style (Quirky, Cheeky, Preppy, Sexy Masculine, Scruffy)
  • Consider lifestyle
  • See a stylist to help translate all this into a coherent set of out fits.

Career highlights include working with stylist Patricia Field from Sex & The City and meeting Jean Paul Gaultier.

Anna demonstrates that when you combine natural aptitude with passion anything is possible. She’s literally written the book on it. You can get a copy of Anna’s book ‘You Can Be Your Own Stylist’ from her fresh new website: as the website says “Take a Trip Into The World Of Style” as Anna takes a trip to Mykonos and New York for some inspiration
